Droid 2 Rooted

They finally figured out how to root this phone:

My question is.. Is there a newbie guide to what happens after enabling root access? Do I need to use some other application to make the changes to the phone I otherwise could not.. i.e. delete bloatware and load ROMs?
Also, what happens when verizon rolls out an update. Is it seamless or will I have problems updating a rooted phone?
