Droid 2 Screen Broken, Filled with Vertical Lines

I woke up the other day, started using my phone and everything was fine. I was checking email / twitter and all of a sudden the screen filled with this:

I have tried pulling battery, SBF, etc, but cannot fix it. Any ideas? The notification bar area still works fine, but the rest of the screen is fubar.

That's why I don't have a twitter account. lol jm

I want to say it's hardware but it's curious that the status bar is still showing fine. When you SBF'd could you see the screen fine in the bootloader or when the phone restarts can you see the bootlogo/animation fine?

EDIT: actually I've seen something similar with the old LG scoop slider phone and it was a problem with the data connection within the sliding mechanism. Small debris could be in there and when you slide your phone the cable could open or possibly tear the data cable.

If u phone is sbfed to stock and u have a backup. Verizon should just swap u out. Maybe the ribbon cable came a bit loose and its distorting the display it happens but its rare.

No I couldn't see the screen. I looked at a screen shot of recovery to know where to click.

They offered to replace under warranty but I was out of town house hunting and was relying on the phone for gps, email, and zillow. I ended up with a tbolt that is great but I'd like to fix the d2 to have for backup.

There are some screen fix apps on the market. Check them out. It can't hurt

Don't take it into a Verizon store. Call Verizon and tell them what happened. Not that you sbf or anything like that, just tell them what the screen looks like. They will overnight you another phone.

Yeah like I said I already bought a TBolt because I was out of town so overnight shipping me a replacement wasn't an option. I am looking to fix this so I have a spare that my wife can use as a mini-tablet :)

I'm going to tear it apart tonight and see if I can determine if the ribbon cable is disconnected. Something along those lines was my initial thought, but I don't know a ton about the internals of the screen. I will report back.........maybe with pictures if you are lucky.

Wow, these things are about impossible to tear apart without breaking something. Can't get the plastic back loose near the camera. Anyone need a spare glass screen?

Most likely a problem with the ribbon cable or a ribbon cable connector. The entire phone would have to be taken apart to check. Can you not find a repair center in your area?

Repair center? I don't know of any besides VZW stores, and they make you mail it in for warranty work.
