Droid 2 Soft Key Lights

want a droid

So I've been seeing some threads circulating in regards to the four soft keys on the bottom of the droid 2 and when they do or do not light up.

(I think they're called soft keys). Anyways, after seeing these I've been noticing no specific pattern to my bottom 4 lights as to when they light up, and when they don't.

I was hoping for someone to post in here explaining when they're are supposed to be lit up and when they are not.

To me it seems like they are most often on when I use the automatic brightness setting. As I type now my soft key lights are off, but I'm on full brightness.

Doing a quick test: turning the screen off and then back on illuminates them for a split second, but then they shut off.

I would really appreciate some insight on this, because I would love for them to somehow stay on while I'm using my phone (especially when I'm on the full brightness setting).

Edit: I am rooted, running Liberty 1.0, if that could somehow be playing a factor.
