Droid 3 battery question

I get about 8 hours of what I call moderate use with my battery. I am considering getting the extended battery but am curious as to if it will be a significant benefit. How much should I expect to gain. What is normal for moderate use?

Do you have the update to 5.6.890 yet? If not battery sucks. Once you get the OTA you will be fine. I went from 8 hrs dead with no use to over 30+ hrs now. If your cell and phone standby/idle are your highest battery usage in the battery manager then you do not have the update yet, and they are using all the battery, after update they should sit around 9-14% and you won't need extended unless you are using the phone 5+ hrs per day screen on. If you don't have the update and are impatient you can backload it, methods in the tech support and hacking forums to do this. Good luck!

I have the update....my usage shows display as the battery hog.....maybe I spend more time using than I think? What could I expect if I got the extended battery and kept the same usage pattern?

Click on display and see how many hours of use it is reporting. If it is over 5 I'd invest in the extended. Extended is a 1930 mAh, normal is 1540, so using math, if 1540 goes 8 hours, 1930 should go 10 hours. 1540/8=192.5, 1930/192.5=10. Of course you will get better than that most likely due to each interval of a battery being different, not all 192.5. Because the total capacity is greater, each interval should be smaller, giving more total time. I would expect a minimum of 12 hours, but since I don't have the extended I am not sure. Maybe someone else can help there? :)

On the other hand, if display is only like 2 hours, check settings and make sure the backlight isn't cranked up. Also look out for rogue apps.

Even after the update, an extended battery is a must have IMHO. There are folks who report great battery strength on the standard battery, so YMMV.

I'd also measure over several days and try to keep your usage the same, and minimal. The point here is that everyone has their own sense of what constitutes moderate use. If you approach it as a little more technically, you might discover that your moderate use this day is not really a good measure.
