Droid 3G Phones For 2011

Infamous

I'm not talking about the ones that are available now, because they were released in 2010.

Since 4G phones are being released in a few months, are there going to be any future Droid 3G phones for this year?

Or is the current line up, the last batch of 3G phones until the 4G phones get released?

No, we don't have info on this. I am assuming there won't be any new 3g phones because they are going to want to move everyone over to 4g. They haven't developed this whole network to keep people on 3g.

Most likely all phone will become 4g...Why would they create devices that won't work on their newest network...

Well, i ask for future 3G phones, cause IF the pricing rumor for 4G is true ($50 for 5GB), then I'd rather get a 3G phone now (The Droid X), and pay $30 for Unlimited data.

I say that, that is my only concern.

I already pay 30 a month I wouldn't mind paying 20 more. I honestly hope that there is a cheaper solution to capping at 3gb or less. On heavy heavy use for me maximum I top out on is 1.5gb and thats on heavy use so capping at 2 gb is perfect. I just got my d2g about a month ago and cannot wait for 4g...

For people in LTE markets, probably either buy an older phone or go LTE.

For someone in a 3G market who doesn't want/need LTE, I wonder if they can't just swap the LTE sim and you're good to go. Pretty much all the phones need to be dual-band until the LTE network is completely built out late 2013/2014.

Not sure what sort of extra cost LTE might add to mfr a phone, but if it's minimal there's no reason to come out with a 3G-only handset.

VZW's goal at CES was to focus on LTE, and there's been a race to get LTE handsets ready. I'm sure there's some 3G phones in the pipeline. For that matter, why not just split a production run between LTE and 3G, especially if all that entails is swapping out the radio? I'd think they'd HAPPILY sell you a 3G model knowing in a year or two you'll have to upgrade to LTE.
