Droid acting really stupid today

I haven't done much to it lately. Last app downloaded was the AP News app. Some upgrades to existing apps too.

Started when I unholstered to find it powered off. Had to pull the battery in order to get it to come on. Found it powered off again later. Battery pull again. Widgets failing to load.

Went to change the voice setting for the echo problem. After the ##PROGRAM it kicked me to a blank home screen. Had to restart it a few times. Tried a few more times with the same results. Finally after trying a regular call I got a screen saying my phone needed to be activated. *228 and that was done.

I was finally able to do the echo fix.

Now my screen won't lock. When I type for txting it spells the words but doesn't put the text in the window.

I DO like my Droid and am hoping for some fixes on Dec. 11. Haven't had any real major issues until today.

Also, everytime I power on I get the force close screen because Open Home is not responding.

mine has been having weird issues as well. other than the camera being a total piece of trash, its just generally being slow and unresponsive. google talk and gmail are very slow to respond and sometimes dont work at all for hours at a time. it randomly turns off and wont turn back on until i take the battery out. the screen stays locked after phone calls.

oh, and the newest one that is pretty annoying... when i hit the lock button, sometimes the screen turns off and sometimes it goes to the locked screen where it shows the time, unlock slider, time, etc. there is no way to deterministically duplicate this behavior. it is seemingly completely random.

also, sometimes when i unlock it, it takes 5-6 seconds for the unlock screen to show up and other times it is instantaneous.

in other words, mine is doing stupid things today too.

The droid is defiantly a work in progress. Hopefully they'll fix some of these issues before everyone jumps ship and buys something else.

I uninstalled Open Home and it flies again. No issues. Not sure what happened with Open Home. I can't remember when the last update was but I'm thinking the update was screwed up.

I miss the customization and 7 screens without Open Home but it beats a laggy device.

Maybe the free Apps made by "whoever" that everyone jumps on and downloads because it looks "cool" needs more work??

I have had my Droid for over 10 days now without a single issue, no reboot, no odd behavior, no drama. BUT, I do resist all the pretty apps and stick to function, AND whenever I download an app, at the first sign of trouble or flackiness when using it, it is uninstalled immediately.

IMHO, the worst thing you can do is download a free app that replaces the "core front end" of your phone, thats just asking for trouble. It's just way too early in the "Droid curve" to do somthing like that.

No matter how stable the phone is (or not) a bad app will bring it down everytime.

This is one of the only good things about Apples absolute control of apps, it makes their phone look much more stable (3rd gen and many years does help too). If WE (as in Android users) don't at least try to be a little responsible in the same way then not only will everyone jump ship to another phone, BUT they will jump ship to another OS, and the "open Android Market" will be closed.

Open Home is not free and seems to be a favorite among many Droid users. It was fine for a while. It seems that the complaints about it came around the same time it started acting up for me.

+1 for cooler heads prevailing. This brings to light one of the major problems with "open source" programming. Open source is a great thing, in theory, but it can also lead to a lot of "Crapware". I agree, the first sign your phone starts acting funny, review what you might have installed last, and dump it. If it keeps it up, start going through the list.

Because of the access some of these apps have, there may be possibilities of app interaction causing issues.

I'm not really sure that's an accurate statement. Take the IPhone. It didn't HAVE TRUE mms messaging for 3 years. I won't get into Storm issues! The Droid is much more refined than others were in the early stages of their development. There is an update coming on December 11th and it will get better from that.

This is to BandTank.....I just got my phone the other day and I was having the same issue as you are when talking to someone and then the phone stays blank when your done talking. Just go to the Menu....select Sound & Display settings....then go to Screen Timeout...now select Never Timeout. I found that this works so far. Haven't had anymore problems with that issue.

Was just using the free part as an example to make a point, I guess I was thinking of Home++ being free.

Home++ is free.... and it now allows for up to 7 screens and runs SMOOTH. Give it a shot.

Sorry you guys are having phone issues... NONE here :icon_eek:
