Droid and WinXP not getting along

Hey
After I recieved my Droid in the mail, first thing I did [after getting amicro-usb] was attach it to my computer. I had planned on placing my music on it [that was why I got it] but Windows claimed the device was not recognized. I had expected this, and downloaded the motorola USB drivers. This did not work the first time, or any of the numerous time which followed [I added files by removing the SD card]. After cleaning my computer out, for other reasons, the same situation has arises. However, it may be interesting to note that Windows 98 can flawlessly recognize, charge, and manipulate files on my device.
Any ideas?

P.S. This was installed on Win98 (http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/win98se-usb-mass-storage-drivers.php), which is probably why it worked. It did not on WinXP.......
