Droid Camera App... ideas?

For all the polish thats come along for apps like the Gallery and phone wide by likes Blackdroid and company (running 7.8 or the flavor of the day), what improvements can be made to the Camera and how feasible are they to implement?

My heart sinks every time I'm engrossed in the Wonderful Gallery App, only to click the Camera icon top right and be shocked back into 1992 design aesthetics. The Camera interface looks like s**t, what can be done?

ALSO, what can be done to improve load times for the Camera app? My Droid never leaves my side and I'd love to use it to capture some candid moments but it has to take eight fulls seconds to load at times... is there a way to leave a part resident in memory to shorten these load times?

The camera load times have been an issue since the Motorola Droids release. Maybe it will be fixed in soon to be released 2.1 update? Correct me if this has been covered.

I use FxCamera app. It's free. Has some fun filters to mess with but the thing I like the most is the ability to up the res a little. It does warn about possible FC's though. Never happened to me, however.

I haven't been able to set the camera button to default to the FxCamera app but maybe someone will experience can help.

The only thing I can think of is that you pasted the wrong picture... what is going on here?

Always had a great experience with Camera ZOOM FX.

Huge list of features and the ui looks pretty polished to me.

Has lots of updates ...

The idea was for a reflective comparison of the design asthetics of a) the current android camera app b) a piece of interface nostalgia from times forgotten.

I think of these old interfaces on my 386 around the times of win3.11, can't we do better? Everytime I see that interface I think I just loaded up Ultima or something....
