Droid Car Dock Problem

I used the OEM motorola car holder and the car charger that came with it on my last road trip. The battery showed it was charging, but then the phone just shut off and would not boot until I removed the battery and then pluged back in the charger. Once it was rebooted it read that it had 5% battery life.

How is this suppose to be used as a GPS if it only lasts about 2 hours and then shuts off? Has any one else had this problem and have any suggestions?

I'm guessing that your Droid was sitting on the dash and simply got too hot. The symptoms you describe are exactly how it behaves when heat is an issue. The way I've found around it is to use a vent mount and let the AC cool it or simply have it sitting down on the console. During the summer it's just flat out too hot on the dash.
