Don't worry about it. But if it makes you feel better or if you have OCD for it, Advanced Task Manager has a nice little widget for it. The phone's OS won't waste power on apps that aren't running in the foreground (apps you're using right then.)
the problem with task killer is it will kill anything that you have set to sync like weather and such so keep an eye on that. there is a HHUUUUGGEEE thread on task killers, read it and decide for yourself. I dont have nor need one and phone works great.

They're problematic if you don't know what you're doing with them. They shouldn't be needed unless you have a problem app in which case you should really be addressing the issue rather than the symptom, IMO. I suspect that there are a lot of people coming from other platforms (particular the Blackberry) that are assuming that Android works the same way that the BB does.
