Droid crash/freeze: random

My Droid is crashing/freezing once in awhile. Probably once a day and I feel like a blackberry user. Its random or possibly happens more often when on lock screen. Dont think its to many processes running. Ive seen people talk about it before. But is this a hardware problem or more likely a software problem? I wouldn't like to return it if i don't have to.

Is this being fixed in the upcoming update? Any ideas?

It is not a common issue for the phone to crash on regular intervals (on a daily basis or more frequently)... I doubt the phone would have much of a following if this was the case. Hence, I am not sure there is a fix, since the crashing itself is indicative of another problem.

And no, you are correct that it is not "having too many processes running"

Which leaves two thing (that I can think of). A misbehaving application... or a hardware problem.

So you choices are return the phone for a new one, or remove apps you have installed one by one until you are running stable. Then try adding the apps back one at a time (with a day or so gap between) until you find... The culprit.
