Droid Eris won't sync

I've had this problem once before. I ended up doing a hard reset, but that was a hassle. I noticed today that my Eris wasn't syncing with my gmail account. Upon closer inspection it appears that it's not syncing at all. Everything is set to sync automatically, all the boxes are checked, but even when I tell it to sync it doesn't do anything. I've also tried clearing the data from my gmail account like a few people have suggested but it hasn't helped. Has anyone had any success fixing this problem that doesn't require a hard reset?
