Droid keeps restarting? *SOLUTION* Delete antivirus app, update was causing problems

My phone was fine this morning, I had a notification for updates, installed them, and since then my phone has been functioning weird. It keeps restarting and every time it restarts it keeps notifying me of a email that I've already read and cleared

What should I do?

Mine started doing the same thing today. Constant restarts and notifications (not of email) when nothing is there.

droid acting strange

phone was fine this am - now - no phone calls - or texts - keeps shutting down.

I pulled the battery and it still booted up and restarted again. But so far it's been okay.. we'll see.

I downloaded some updates for apps, next thing I know my phone is restarting and not functioning correctly. I can't make phone calls or anything. It's really starting to piss me off! I pulled the battery and rebooted, but still have the same problem. I can't make any phone calls...

CRAP! I was just about to post about this same exact problem! The update I had was the antivirus one and about an hour ago my phone is restarting, I can't make any phone calls because when I try to it freezes then force closes, and now it's just being really annoying! could it be a y2k thing? Hopefully it gets better by tomorrow.

Same here with antivirus update on the Eris. I've pulled out the battery, turned it off and restarted it, and run the antivirus software and it still keeps restarting AND hasn't managed to find a signal yet to make calls out.

i also downloaded the antivirus update today and it totally screwed me up. i just removed it, and so far it's made a noticeable difference. things aren't SLOW anymore, the phone has yet to reboot and i'm not about to throw it through my wall anymore. best of all, i can finally make new years plans! i was removing the weather channel app when it restarted, though, and now i can't redownload it because marketplace thinks i have it and can't remove it because it thinks it was removed. any advise for this new issue?

I've had my Droid since launch and hadn't had a single problem with it until I updated this morning and started having the same problems as everyone else in this thread. I uninstalled Flyscreen, Antivirus, and Timeriffic and everything has been fine since then. If I see comments that things are working well again, I'll go back and reinstall them.

My old phone (LG Voyager) started doing this a couple years ago when I accidentally canceled the receiving a picture message by pressing the end key. It would keep restarting every 30 seconds or so and the only way I found to stop it was to remove the battery. Everything on the phone still worked, but there was no time to do anything on it as it would just shut off.

I don't know if that could be the reason yours is doing that but maybe it is a similar reason. I got my phone replaced free by Verizon as it was under warranty.

For now, yes, because it's working 100% now for me without it. Any ideas as to how I can remove The Weather Channel? It was unistalling during a reboot and now won't work or even remove. Can't redownload, either. Ideas?

Arrgh

I did a factory reset and it fixed my problem... probably went too far but oh well.

I uninstalled the anti virus app and everything is back to normal! I'm making calls and no restarting.
