root, rename bloat, overclock, use launcher pro.

It's not necessary to root your Droid if you are having slow performance. First if you are using any task killers or antivirus remove them. If that doesn't work then do a factory data reset out of your privacy settings. You will lose data and any free apps that you downloaded. Paid apps will be in the download area of the market. You basically will be starting over. Your SD card will not be affected.
