Droid newbie

Hi all...thank you for taking the time out to help me. Ive converted to Droid from Apple and im so helpless.
I have a few issues that Verizon employees rudly wouldnt even try to help me.

Ringtone volume- when an incoming call comes, why does the ring start off soft and jumps to really loud? Theres no
"Ascending" options in ringtone. Anyone else have this issue?

Brightness- only when i use the intetnet the screen dims automatically even after
I turned off face detection, auto brightness, and battery saver. HELP!

Keyboard- how to turn off "word suggedtions" when typing. I start typing a word and it auto fills a word i dont want.

* how can i get spell check on w/o the predicted text on??

How to cut and paste and save items?

Icons- anyone know a link that explains what the icons on the upper status bar means?

On apple, there was iMessage...free text and pics among ALL apple users reguardless of carrier.
Does droid have something similar?

For your volume issue, you might check out a "volume +" app in the market - here is one... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cb.volumePlus&hl=en

On your keyboard issue - again, you might check out a 3rd party keyboard app in the market - there are a few free ones and then several paid ones (they will offer word prediction but it is in a bar above the keyboard)...

And lastly...Google Talk will allow you send msg's and pics to anyone with a gTalk account - that might be worth checking out ...
