Droid Pro freezing w/dialer

My wife's Droid Pro had the issue with the earpiece not working, so I recently replaced the defective part. The earpiece is now working correctly, but now everytime the dialer comes on the screen the phone freezes up and the screen goes black. The only way to end the call (without someone ending it on the other end) is to do a battery pull.

I tried a hard reset last night, but now when the dialer comes up to activate the phone... I get the same issue.

Any thoughts?

Would rooting the phone fix this issue?

Okay.... 3 in a row here, but it seems it isn't the dialer, but rather whatever the screen is after the dialer when the call stars. Or, in other words, the screen freezes up/goes black/all keys are non responsive, after I initiate the call. I can hear the ringing and could frankly hold a conversation. However I cannot access any bit of that phone until the caller on the other end hangs up.
