Droid touchscreen gone goofy - maybe parting out

The touchscreen has gone totally goofy on my a855; sometimes it doesn't work at all and sometimes it has a mind of its own. Unfortunately I am off-warranty by a couple of months, so my options are limited. I can get a new touchscreen for around $35, or I can "lose" my phone and get a new one by paying a $100 deductible. The second option would make my old phone pretty useless, except as a browser on wi-fi, and maybe as a gps, albeit without map updates. I'd really like to use the good parts for other things.

I was thinking of using the screen in a computer case I'm modding, but I don't know if there's any way to interface the thing to a PC. Does anyone know if the screen can be run off an hdmi/dvi interface, possibly with just a small power supply, or is it more complicated than that?

How about the cpu/logic board? The only ideas i have are using it as a wireless router or gps receiver, but that would mean installing another os like debian or a very modified slackware... and doing some very extensive software mods. Figuring out how to reverse the USB-OTG interface in software would only be the first hurdle.

Any ideas, suggestions, tips, etc?
