Droid with broken screen - what can we do with it?

We are recieving a HTC Droid Eric with a shattered screen. Was dropped on sidewalk. No insurance...so what can we do with it? Can we manipulate the controls with an outside program? Apparantly some of the screen is readable. Can we export the video to something somehow? We want to experimenting before trying to swap it out, ect.

what about compiling the kernal and try to get wm 6.5 installed on it? Other forum im apart of was able to port Android over to work with the TP1(raph800 -aka all the cdmas except VZW which is the raph500) and the TP2.
