no warning. Was running the leaked 595 GB and running perfectly for many weeks.

Was playing words with friends, listening to music at the gym, watched a movie, no issues.

Went to check email, phone is slow, locks up, screen will not turn off, had to pull the battery. Tried to clear the cache, no fix. Did a factory reset, same problem.

Used RSDLite and SBF'd back to stock Froyo, still jacked up. Pulled the SD card in case it was corrupted, same problem.

Gmail app keeps crashing, phone stops responding, can't get it to make a call, etc...

Tried everything and the SBF didn't seem to fix it. Phone seems completely hosed, no warning, have not done anything with it to cause this from what I can see.

Any ideas?

Booted up, tried to connect to my Wifi, sees the network and when I hit connect and try to type in the password, the keyboard comes up for a split second and then disappears. I can bring it up but every time it immediately disappears.

Phone is completely unusable. I don't know what else to try at this point. SBF and factory reset isn't working. I think something just fried or something.

SBF'd again, did a factory reset and cleared the cache, and now the phone will no activate. Makes the call, hit 1, and it fails every time.

About to smash this POS.

I don't have any advice, but that sucks. Sorry to hear it. Am curious if anyone has insight into what happened.

Did that. SBF'd again, then factory reset then cleared cache seems to have helped.

But now I am back on Froyo, most of my stuff is not installed and I frankly do not trust the phone. I have not installed a ROM or done anything whacky lately. Phone was working flawlessly for many weeks, and just went belly up. Sluggish, apps crashing, just basically fell apart.

I am not due for an upgrade for like 17 months, and I need the phone for work, I cannot have a phone that is unreliable.

What do you guys recommend? I don't have $600 to shell out for a new one, but I wonder if I could add a second line, bare minimum plan in order to get a new contract price, and then switch the phones so that the DX is on the cheap plan and the new phone is on the unlimited plan?

Granted, I have to pay for the second phone line, but at least I would have a spare line and not have to shell out $600 for a new phone.

Thoughts?

Where did you buy it? If VZ should be exchangeable.

I bought it at a VZW store. I am gonna go see what they have to say. Problem is that I had rooted it and had the leaked GB on it, so I voided my warranty. Granted, I have SBF'd it so they would not necessarily know that, but still...

I am tempted to wait another couple days for the OTA and see how it reacts and make a decision then. I really don't want to buy a new phone right now unless I absolutely have to. I want my next phone to be the Samsung Galaxy S 2.

Did you try reverting to a previous back-up at any point? I was having several issues (not as many as you tho!) and going back helped tremendously.

I really feel for you man. I hope you can figure something out. Try giving VZ a phone call and see what they say... maybe they can send a refurb?

Can you please SBF with this method and let me know if you still have problems. I just fixed 4 DX's with similar issues and experiences that you are explaining with this method.

Linux solution to your Windows/RSD lite problems

I seem to have gotten it fixed, although I am more concerned that you have had 4 DX's with similar problems.

I wonder if there was a problem with the leaked GB .595? It literally was fine one minute and trashed the next. Had to SBF twice and factory resets and then 2 hours reinstalling apps, getting everything set up the way that I want, etc... Except now I am back on Froyo, but at least the OTA is gonna start rolling tomorrow.
