Droid X Text Message Ringtone Assignment

Go to Messages, hit Menu, hit Settings and find Notification Settings. It's in there somewhere.

Alternatively, get WhoIsIt Lite.

well it appears the actual problem is that even tho i hav downloaded ringtones they are not showing up in the list of options any advice there

I think your problem might be solved by downloading Rings Extended and using that as your ringtone picker.
