DroidPlayer needs USB mouse

Droid player has USB ports. I plugged a USB mouse and nothing happened. New to this technology, any help would be appreciated. My laptop has Windows on it and the mouse works fine. I realise that with the droidPlayer I may have a bit more work to do but I cannot see how to start. Looked in Settings to see if there is anything like "add hardware" but I cannot see anything.
