earbud problem with my Moto X

I am having a problem using ear buds with my phone. I already sent one phone back. Now my second phone is doing the same thing, second time I've used audio to listen to an ebook. Music same, any audio through plugs. Audio sputters and stops immediately. Any ideas?

Do you have a case on the phone, casing the plug to not go into the jack far enough?

No case, but I think it was operator error. I hadn't pushed in the jack quite far enough, at least it did work today. Will see how it does tomorrow.

I have noticed the same thing. Sometimes when my ear buds aren't working properly, I just go back and make sure I pushed the jack all the way in. I find that sometimes it will feel that I pushed it in all the way, but then realize that it isn't fully seated.
