If you are purchasing a new Nexus device then chances are you will want to be able to unlock its bootloader, root it and install some custom roms. In order to do this you will need to have either the full SDK installed on your PC which can be a pretty grueling task, or you could just simply set up the necessary ADB and Fastboot files. If you chose to install the SDK you will have to install a large file that includes a few installers. Then you will need to grab the tools and platform tools from the installer just to get the necessary adb and fastboot files. From that point on you will need to run your commands from the folder housing the adb and fastboot files.

Alternatively you can install adb and fastboot using the "15 second ADB installer". This installer is only 9mb and will install both adb and fastboot to your PC as well as the USB drivers for your device. The tool also auto determines whether your system is 32bit or 64bit. The whole process takes less than 15 seconds. This works with Windows 10 and under. If on Windows 10 use version 1.3 and be sure to run as admin.
