Easy Tether bootloader

I have been using the Easy Tether app with my Droid X for over a year now, off and on, and it has worked great. However, the last two times I used it, I've received phone calls while tethering. I don't answer the phone, but a minute later the tether stopped and the phone locked on "Bootloader 30.04 Battery OK OK to Program Transfer Mode: USB" The only way I was able to unlock it was to pull the battery out. Both times when I turned the phone back on, it worked fine again.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Is there another way to get out of the Bootloader screen? What does bootloader even mean?
