EasyRoot?

I tried to search for info on EasyRoot but didn't find much.

After the successful update to 2.2 I'm thinking of rooting even though it seems that a lot of people who had rooted phones whether they had unrooted or not were having trouble with the update. I had no trouble. It went through first time without a hitch in about 5 minutes.

But back to the point. What is the consensus on EasyRoot? I gather that Google has killed the direct app so now you you have to send an email to them with all your phone info (to see if it compatible) and I guess they email you the app as an attachment. I don't know if this is all legit or not? I don't think they would really need all that info, just what phone you have and what version of firmware would seem to be enough.

So is it ok to send this info? Not sure if there is any personal info in there or not. Is there any reason to not use easyroot? Seems like if it works with one click to root and then one click to unroot why go through a longer process to get the same place. Unless this doesn't work.

Thanks

If you are running FRG22D you cannot use easy root. I don't recommend it anyway, you'd be better of with dmupdater 12 but that doesn't work with FRG22D either.

So basically, as I understand it, if you're one of the lucky ones that has the 2.1 sbf you're able to root, but if you don't no ones giving it to you? So you can't root a 2.2 dx yet?

No, you can root if you have FRG22D. You just can't use the "easy" methods.

This is the only way I know how to do it.

That method will work for d1 but not a dx.

My bad, where I view posts from I sometimes don't pick up what Forum I'm in. Either way Easy root would not work though.

I used universalandroot for frg01b, but for frg22d you'r right it won't. if you're already rooted, I say just bypass the OTA update (make your phone tell itself its always up to date) and ur good.

Otherwise, wait until someone in the community roots the x and use their method

Yeah but we are in the X hacks forum so it doesn't apply.

Thanks for the info.

Simple rooting guide? If that is simple I'd sure hate the see the complicated way to do it ;)

It's a bit daunting to tell you the truth. Lot's of software required and lots of steps and entries to make mistakes on with a little keypad. And like the guy says, if it seems too hard then maybe you shouldn't be rooting any way.

I think I might just wait until someone figures out a way to root that is actually easy or writes an app. Guess I'm just a woose. :/

Maybe those days of it being easy are behind us.

There was a rumor going around that someone was close to cracking the bootloader on the D2. If that happens, they will probably crack the DX as well. Then you might see an easy rooting method.

I'm on your side, I don't like any of the ways I see for rooting the D2. And since it works so well without root until someone comes up with an easier method, I'll wait. I want to understand what I'm doing.

Well i have a rooted droid x. i used the droid 2 method running th ota update with no issues. I did it manually thru adb and it took a total of 5 min.

There are a few scripts that will take the commands out of your hands. If you can get the Android SDK and install any drivers (if you're on Windows), one of these might get you rooted:

How to: Root DROID X Running Official Android 2.2 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
xda-developers - View Single Post - Easier 1-2-3 Droid 2 Root for Windows / Linux / Mac

All three have scripts that you simply place in your Android SDK tools directory and then just run the script. I made the script in the first link (scroll down the part about rooting) and it worked to root my wife's Droid 1. Unfortunately, it's a *nix script, so if you're on Windows, you can check the next links. (It also has a few commands specific to Droid 1 rooting, and where I don't have a Droid X, I haven't tested it on the X. But I think it could work.) The second and third links are links I found with scripts with Windows scripts. The third has both *nix and Windows script specific to the Droid X and Droid 2.

If you're looking for something simpler than these, I don't think you'll find them. Hope they help.

If you're looking for something simpler than these said:
That does look easier and helpful.

I am on a PC. I found this: Android SDK | Android Developers

I'll have to study all the stuff you shared and see how I feel about it.

If I try it and have problems I'll ask for help on this thread to inform others.

Why don't you take a look at this thread here.

One Click Droid X Froyo

I was able to root this way after the OTA 2.2 update and it's the closest you can get to a one-click root at the moment. It worked for me and I have had no issues. All my apps that require root work along with ROM Manager and Clockworkmod. I take no credit for it at all. I just happened to stumble upon it while I was also waiting for a one-click solution.

Would be happy to answer any other questions. Hope this helps.
