Editing PNG's

whenever i try to edit some of the PNG's in the framework.res they come out all messed up in photoshop. they sometimes have a black background or a choppy black order on the icons. anyone have any clue what is causing this? thanks.

Iv'e run into this problem as well and would love to know how to edit these images easier.
