Just bought my 3rd Motorola, the Razr i. Before that i had the Atrix and many years ago the Startac.

I have a few questions about rooting, what are the benefits to doing this? I know the risks, ive seen enough "problems" on different forums.

I've only had the phone a few days but i like it a lot. Give me a few weeks and i will be able to give you a better review

Rooting has upsides and downsides (as you mentioned you have some understanding of this). Essentially it gives you administrative access on your device and the go ahead to customize it by installing custom ROMs, freezing/deleting apps, etc. Best thing to do is lots and lots of research to gain all the knowledge you need before proceeding.

As JSM said, rooting gives you full access to your phone and opens up a whole new world to Android for ya. Check out the second link in my sig, hopefully that'll answer some questions for ya
