email delete checkbox in gmail

the other day i went into gmail on my droid to delete some emails and now the checkbox next to the emails is gone. how do i enable that?

Delete?....I don't think I've deleted anything from my gmail....I have over 10k emails in there...lol

But in the Gmail app go into settings and check Batch Operations.
