Email notification - how to turn off?

After my phone updated it now plays an alert when any new email comes in. Prior to this the alert was only when I received a text message. How can I turn off the email notification and only have it alert when I receive a text?

same issue here

My droid plays the email notification sound about every 2 or 3 minutes, even if I press the "Clear" button. Battery draining much faster since the froyo update too. Anyone who can give a suggestion, thanks in advance.

I finally figured out how to turn it off (a minute after my post) and now have a long lasting battery again

You turn it off in the options of your email program. Let me know if you use gmail or other and I'll see if I can give you instructions if you don't figure it out.
