Email notification sounds not working and email only delivers when I go to mail

This is the third time I have had this problem and twice I have called Verizon tech support to resolve it. All of a sudden, even though it has previously been working and I have all the settings right, my Incredible will stop making a notification sound when I receive a text or email. Simultaneously, I will not recieve email message notification on my home page. They will not show up in my inbox until I actually go in the mail folder. Anyone else having this problem? It seems the only solution is to delete my mail accounts and set them up again. A pain to do............
