EN in notification bar

Hi all!
Having a weird problem with my Droid 2 and have searched everywhere with no answer. My phone has an EN in the notification bar when I am holding the phone horizontal. When the phone is vertical - it disappears. I have done battery plugs with no avail. It's on the right side of the screen to the left of the 3G. Just says EN.

Also noticed....

Also noticed it's only there when the keyboard is open (vs closed)

Perhaps it means extended network or edge network....
