Enabling WiFi from the power widget

When I enble the WiFi from the home screen power widget, I am notified if it turns on or off, but the 3g icon stays in the status bar and I never see the wifi icon. In order to get to the wifi icon, I put the phone into airplane mode, then put the wifi on. Only then will the 3g icon go away and run with wifi. Any ideas?

when you turn on wifi from the power widget are you near the wireless network your trying to connect to? mine has no issues with that

Occasionally when I turn on wi-fi with the power widget, it doesn't actually kick in. I just go to the wireless settings and as soon as I open the wi-fi settings, it "finds" my router and kicks on. Might have to try a different widget to see if it works better.
