Sometimes our friends in Japan get all the cool toys! If you are an anime fan, then you might want to feast your eyes on this Evangelion Android smartphone. It's a limited edition as only 30,000 are being produced, yet its price will not be too crazy at around 84,240 yen ($705). Here's a breakdown of specs for the phone, called the SH-M02-EVA20:
  • 1.2GHz Snapdragon MSM8926 processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB of onboard storage
  • A microSDHC slot for up to 32GB cards
  • NGE-themed Android skin
While these internals are obviously a bit "budget friendly" for that price, the folks who would want this phone will probably be perfectly happy with its performance. You obviously don't buy a phone like this for its performance, but for its ability to give you fan bragging rights.

While this isn't the first Evangelion themed smartphone, this is the latest and commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series. Strangely, the way you sign up for one of these is to go into a local 7-Eleven store in select Japanese locations. check out the video promo in the thread below.

Here's that promo video (it's a shame this will not be coming to the US):

From what I recall, the last EVA themed phone was much more up to snuff versus the top-of-the-line devices at the time. Not sure it's worth $700 for a digital collector's item like this.

Man... This is a blast from the past. I'm in agreement with the majority here though... Don't think it's worth it.
