Extended battery displaying wrong

I got an extended battery with my droid 2, and keep the normal in my pocket. Today when my extended hit 5% I decided to try a test as my extended battery has only been lasting about 8-10 hours with medium usage. I switched the batteries out, powered on the phone, turned it off again, put the extended back in, and its now showing 50% battery life left and running fine. Any idea why its displaying incorrectly? is the display correct now or should I expect the phone to die any minute?

Your battery meter will display like it would with regular battery. Turning off and on will reset the meter. I try to sometimes reboot before battery says its charged completely to make sure its charging all the way but not sure if I need to. just don't want the system to stop charging cause it thinks it full. There may be an app in market for reseting battery status to.
