Will any computer type speaker system work, powered speaker's?
What about making my own speaker system for the car? Would rather make my own than buy something. Any suggestions?
As long as your headunit or speakers have an aux input. I personally use a USB cable for my truck because its better sound and it routes all the info through my headunit

In my truck, I have a Kenwood Excelon head unit I bought off eBay. It was $140 new. It has front USB and auxiliary inputs, so I just use a regular USB cable and hook my phone up to it. It reads it just like a flashdrive and also charges the phone.
There are other headunits (like the one in my parent's new F150), that have Bluetooth and you can stream the audio to the stereo. The Kenwood I have has the capability, but I didn't buy the extra module
Although it eats batteries, it's much better when you want a portable alternative to the loud speaker on the phone itself, great for putting on pandora or streaming through Zumocast and working in the garage or whatever.
