face recognition

Hey everyone, just purchased a DroidRazr to replace my old Droid X and love it thus far. However I was reading about it and saw that you can lock your phone by using the camera on the front for facial recognition. I tried to find this option on my phone but wasn't able to see that option. I'm wondering if that only comes with the Razr Maxx or if I need to get an app for it. Suggestions?

Honestly, it's a neat gimmick but it won't provide any real security. The pattern unlock is much quicker and more secure. Imagine the variables. Face in light, dark, camera at an angle, glasses, no glasses. I tried it on my phone and it was cool for about 2 minutes. After that the novelty wore off I found it to be a PITA. I haven't tried this but I understand that you can unlock a phone using a pic of yourself. If you can't figure it out, don't worry you're not missing much.

But to answer your question on my phone it is listed as an option right along with pin, pattern, and password lock. Try looking in the security section. That's where mine is located.

Yeah, I read that it wasn't really a secure way to lock your phone. I did go into my security options and it isn't listed as one of my options which I just found strange. I'm sure that i'm not missing much. Thanks for the quick reply.

I think it worked fine once I updated the pictures to account for light, angles etc... Even though I did not have problems with recognition, I still found it quicker to use a pin or pattern.

I was frustrated with it at first because it would only work about 25% of the time, then I found out that you have to work with it a little. Go into settings -> Security & Screen Lock, then choose "Improve Face Matching". Follow the steps to do additional face captures.

I did it outside on a bright day and in other various lighting scenarios, and now it works nearly 100% of the time and it's fast.

NOTE: Make sure that you aren't wearing sunglasses at the time, that messes it all up.
