Faster upload then download? 3G sporadic. Slow. Help?

Hi All,

I'm trying to make the most of my Droid. I am using a speed test app on the Droid and then use PDANet to tether, with both I get speeds twice as fast for uploading then downloading. Also, I can usually get 3-4 bars of 3G at my house, sometimes it just switches to 1X at 1-2 bars and I can't figure out why. Location doesn't change, just sitting on my desk. I can never get over 0.8Mbps, although I've seen reports elsewhere stating up to 4x that, though that is my upload, and I get only 0.4Mbps down.

Is there a setting somewhere I am missing? VZW "support" was useless.

try powercycling the phone and retest. do you have any apps that use the net in background which could be using your net connection and is using part of your bandwidth? also could be other users using the same cell tower at same time and tower could be overloaded. also I use speedtest.net app and website to test my speeds via pc phone etc most reliable IMHO speedtest.net also has different servers and you will get different speeds a server which is closer with low ping will yield best results HOWEVER if a device whether it be phone or pc can only connect at the lowest speeds between the two for example if your net connection is like mine 30mbs down and 3mbs uploading and i test a server or go to a site whos server can only upload at 20mbs max my download speed will only be 20mbs provided it also has the bandwidth (i.e other users arent dipping into the stream) hope that makes some sense. who needs 3g when ya got wifi :icon_ banana:good luck if ya need any more info just ask

Of course verizon support was useless. Seeing as this is not supported by them in any way, shape, and form. Please tell me you didn't call them and ask them that.

Yes, I used speedtest.net and the closer server. Even after a fresh boot, it is still slow on 3G, upload to 2x faster! Strange.

No, of course not, only regarding the Droid's speed test app. I didn't tell them I was tethering
