Finally got a smartphone

this past weekend i finally stepped up and got a HTC Evo. this is a big jump from my prior phone (that peice of sh!t LG Rumor)

anyways, what's some good apps to get. preferably the free ones for now, i'll worry about some priced apps after i get a lil' more used to this thingso far i got shazam, angry birds (awesome game btw) soundhound, pokerkinggoogle sky map,caller id faker, evil operator, a few soundboards, and the stuff that was included

any good ones i'm missing out on?

btw, what exactly does "rooting" mean? and what is it good for? i keep hearing that word tossed around
