First custom rom on droid x.

Well I said I wasn't going to mess with them but I remembered how easy rom premium made it and I want to try a custom rom. Im thinking gummyjar as I've heard it spoken of highly. Does this rom have any special hacks or features I should know about? I just did a backup on titanium backup so im ready to start firing away, just wondering which pool to jump into first.

I haven't tried gummyjar but I hear its good. I would suggest Apex as a first rom its a good mix of blur and aosp plus its really stable. You need to download Droid X Bootsrap from the market and do a backup in clockwork so you have something to go back to if you mess up or to get the next ota. Titanium wont give you a full backup of your phone only apps and app data.

How did you install it? What happened when you installed it?

I just used rom manager, then it rebooted.. What should the kernel be if it is in fact gummyjar?
Ok...a few pointers...
#1- don’t use Rom Manager on the Droid X, it isn't designed for the locked bootloader.

#2- if you haven't done it yet, get Droid X Recovery Bootstrapper from market. This will allow you to get into ClockworkMod Recovery. Everything should be done this way.

#3- if you do insist on using Rom.Manager, you still need to use Bootstrapper (select first option "Bootstrap Recovery" before use Rom Manager or RM will not work.)

#4- check out DarkSlide (shameless plug,I know, sorry) it's got a blur version AND a Blurless version which contains just the right mix of Blur and non-blur...it's fast and smooth as hell. It has great battery life, is excellently themed, and has dedicated support, not only from the team, but from the user community as well...

#5 download the TBH app. Use this to download the 2.3.32 & 2.3.34 sbf's- you never know when you'll need saving.

#6 download RSDLite 4.9 to your pc. You will need it to flash the sbf's should you need to save yourself from a brick state.

And if you ever need help, feel free to ask :) enjoy your DX- it is a great device! :p

I'm confused, I've tried searching for the tbh app but what is it so I know which to select. Also, how do I start the the bootstrap? If I have to use rsd lite for custom roms, I may not want to go down this road.. I didn't like rsd lite with my droid at all..

Sorry...search Team Black Hat app...

To start bootstrapper, open the app, there are 2 options. 1st will bootstrap your recovery. 2nd will reboot you into the custom recovery.

RSDLite is not needed unless you need to flash an sbf...in which case, PM me and I can send you a step by step guide, don’t worry. :) in fact, feel free to PM me anytime if you want help/ have questions ;)

What do you use team black hat for? Sorry for all the questions...
Edit:when im in bootstrapper, do I want bootstrap recoer or reboot recovery and then go into rom manager?

Crud, Im into the clockwork recovery mode but i dont know what button on the phone will let me reboot the system now. I don't have any roms to use yet.. Lol.

Volume keys to scroll up and down. Camera button to select. the top lock button is the back button.

Unless you have a zip, you should use clockwork to make a nandroid back up. Just go to backup and restore and select backup. It's a good thing to have a fresh original.
