First time Droid User - NOOB Questions :-)

As the title states, I'm a new Droid user. Been using blackberry phones for the past 8-10 years and finally was able to get my company to move me up to a Droid.

Anyway, with that being said, I have a few questions which i searched for but was unable to find a clear and solid answer. Hoping some people could assist (without flaming me too much.. lol)

1. I noticed that when my phone is plugged into a USB cable that is connected to my computer, the ringtones i have saved on my SD card will no longer play (i assume this is because the PC has priority control of the SD card which prevnts the droid from accessing it). Without removing the phone from the USB cable, is there any way to allow the specific ringtones to be accessed and played?

2. The dreaded CorpSync.... Is it possible to move the CorpSync icon (which shows the number of unread emails) to the home screen? The icon appears under the messaging app. The one I am refering to looks like this:
corpsync.jpg

I am wondering if I could use the "Add to Home Screen" -> Shortcuts -> Activities option to select the correct item. Would anyone know what that specific name would be?

3. While I found that Handcent works well with providing notification (led and tones) for SMS, MMS and calls, is there another program that would provide that same functionality for using CorpSync?

4. Is there a decent calendar app that I can use which would allow .vcs (Outlook calendar) files to be associated with it?

Again, I appreciate anyone who can provide some help and insight. :icon_ banana:

:welcome: to the Droid Forums. That's about all I can do for you here, however I do believe that many of your issues can be resolved. I don't deal with corporate email so I can't answer that one. All of my ringtones are created using my own music with Ringdroid (If you haven't tried it, you should).

There are other calendar apps available but again, I use Google Calendar so I have none I can recommend for you.

I'm sure someone else will come by with some real answers for you. I'll keep an eye on your thread.

Hey there, welcome!

I also do not use corporate, sorry:(

As far as a calendar goes I use Agenda Widget (free) and there is also a paid version of it. The free on has plenty of options and you can sync Google, U.S. Holidays and other calendars with it.

Good luck:)

HookBIll/Chkmate - Thanks for the warm welcome. I've been a lurker for some time now as I was told a Droid would be placed in my hands about a month ago. There are some great questions posted and more importantly some great answers provided too. I look forward to spending countless hours on here :-)

Oh you have no idea! The addiction is just beginning. It is easiest to surrender and enjoy the ride :)

1) In your notification bar, switch from USB only mode to Media Sync or PC Mode. This allows your computer to have limited access to the SD card while the phone remains the mounted devices.

No help on the rest, happy hunting

Regarding the calendar app, my suggestion would be to sync your outlook calendar to your google calendar (there are programs which can do this out there)

Sorry I can't help with more of your Questions...

If you are getting to corp mail via a webmail IMAP the calendar will sync for you.. as will contacts etc..

Agreed not having dedicated ringtones while attached via usb sux. If you remove the Mass storage device when connected you ring tones stay intact.

might want to give that a try
