Fix for horrible phone reception

My Incredible has absolutely the worst reception of any phone I've owned period. I can't even believe they would be able to legally get away with selling such a piece of S product, which makes me think either mines broken or mine can be cured with the supposed ROM update HTC keeps telling me about. My phone gets ZERO signal at home, and got 100% full signal with the Moto Droid.

Is there a ROM update that will fix the horrible phone reception, dropped calls etc.? So far I've had about 80 dropped calls and Verizon says that's ok. It's damn rediculous and I'm about to throw the phone through their window. I can't get a decent signal no matter where I travel. If I place my hand over the back of the phone then the call gets choppy audio.

I used Unrevoke and rooted, and installed the leaked Froyo ROM. This was supposedly the ROM from Verizon that they are starting to send out as an OTA update. I have Froyo, but the video camera doesn't work. It just freezes up and restarts the phone.

I've been trying to update the radio for an hour with no luck so far. It keeps staying at the old 1.0xx version. I have s-off. I've tried both ways, with and without root. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Did you talk to the folks in a store or via the phone help line? Every thing I've read and from my personal experience indicates the help line folks are more helpful, accommodating and knowledgeable than the in-store folks. Even if you did call them before, call them again. They will fix this - it is a warranty issue (IMHO).:) Good luck.

I checked and the SD card is FAT, not FAT32. I'm backing it up, reformatting it and then copying my stuff back onto it.

Bayou, ever notice when you give out some of the best, most common sense information for some reason it's ignored?

I thought it was just me. ;)

Just so everyone knows, I've not only wasted my time calling "Tech support", I've called them about 6 times. Each time they run through som BS process of restart the phone, dial *228, etc. Then they tell me to "Wait until the ROM update comes out" before doing anything drastic like exchanging the phone....I've also spoken to HTC, and they blame Verizons cell towers. HTC actually has the nerve to say they know nothing about a reception problem with the phone. Then they say they're working on a ROM update for Verizon, and won't tell me anything else.

Now that I've done the radio update, the signal is just as bad if not worse than before. I'll return it to stock, and then bring it to the store and leave it on their counter....maybe let all the customers in the store know the phone's problems....Sometimes that works.

I think the phone is physically not right, not just a ROM problem.

What's "s-off"

I have noticed little to no bars, but I have dropped 1 call to my girlfriend when she was in the basement, where at&t gives her no service. Other than that, everything works as I would expect it. If 3G is not available, the phone goes into 1X which offers good coverage too.

S-off was a mod by Unrevoked, something to do with allowing ROM updates without checking permissions.

Anyways, with the newest 2.xxx radio update, I get slightly better reception everywhere but at my house. At my house, it's a random zero bars to full bars. The full bars only happen once in a great while, and they're only there for about 1/2 a second. However, I can't check voice mail or make outgoing phone calls because there's NO SIGNAL...... Somehow my Motorola Droid had 100% full signal in the same house.

I have noticed the same thing, I will try to check mail or something, but the phone seems to not pick up bars. It seems like the phone is only trying to get enough signal to get by, where as phones like the moto droid will pull down all the signal that is available.

Just get a new Incredible or a differenct Droid. Your hardware or software is at fault. I've had no problems with my Incredible, and I get 3G everywhere, never a drop call, with cristal clear sound. And its all stock.....I asked a couple of my coworkers whom also have Incredibles and no issues there either.
