I have an LG Vortex and I'm using the recommended charger for the phone.

I always take care of my phone. Its never near water or anything harmful to the phone. I was watching a YouTube video on my phone and mind you my phone was fully charged and it just shut off for no reason. Wouldn't turn on or anything but the search button was flashing. So I took out the battery for about a minute tried to turn it back on and still nothing. So I called Verizon and right after I hung up with them it turned back on on its own. I ran a scan and no viruses or anything thank goodness but now I'm wondering what happened. Does anyone know or has anyone had this problem?

Same!

Same problem here! Also have an LG vortex and have taken very good care of it. Never gotten wet and actually never been dropped either.

I turn my phone off at night so this morning I turned it on and it stayed on the "Verizon wireless" logo like it was still loading up (all home buttons at the bottom were lit). It wouldn't respond to anything and I couldn't even turn it off! So I just left it for a few hours. After getting back, the screen was black and it wouldn't turn on (I'm guessing it was dead) but the search button was flashing. Anyways, I plugged in the phone again and after about 5 minutes, the battery charging screen came on! Thought I was home free to I pressed the power button to turn it on, but it's doing the exact same thing again. Guess I'll just have to wait till it dies?

What did Verizon say about your phone? It just magically fixed itself?

No idea but ditch the antivirus. Its pretty much useless. Viruses arent really a threat. If you are truly concerned, check the permissions of apps before you install them. Make sure they are reasonable. For example Transdroid recently released a spyware version, but removed the permission very quickly via an update. Transdroid is a remote interface for various torrent clients letting you to manage your torrents on the go. Of course it needs internet access but the update with spyware had a permission to access your phones contacts. Why would a remote torrent interface need to know your contacts? It doesnt. Your wasting battery life(last I checked) these scanners were battery killers and there just wasting CPU and RAM.

lg vortex black screen flashing search button

I HAVE A SOLUTION!!!!! Ok, I know this is probably too late for the previous posts, but wanted to post my solution for those that follow since this seems to be a pretty common issue with the vortex. This very same thing happened to me about 20 mins ago. I however, was using the usb connection to my laptop to charge my phone when this happened to me, as I had been doing for quite some time now. I tried everything. Taking the battery out and even banged it a few times (frustration issues). but anywho, after fiinding no solution online I tried to connect it back to the usb and noticed a pop up on my laptop screen that said device not recognized. LIGHTBULB!! Thankfully I found a lg wall charger and plugged it in. After about 5 mins of flashing search button the lg sign came on and showed battery charging and was able to turn it on successfully. Yea I could have just said try another charger but I got annoyed when I read on another site that someone just randomly said the battery was dead (frustration issues). Guess it was partly true though lol

Pulled one out of the box that is doing this :icon_ devil:

Im going to try the let it sit for five or so on a powerd usb hub and see if i dont have to go into a store for replacement.

I wonder if this is a phone issue or crappy battery :cus:

well it came back, I plugged it in for 10min with the travel charger (that it came with) the lights stopped flashing and now its up and running.
The strange part is opened the box plugged it into the wall, charged it to 100 then pulled the battery and made sure it was off, and the battery drained in 1 day sitting in a box? so what is the problem the phone or the Stock battery?

I've had this problem for quite a while. I would put my Vortex on charge like I normally do, and the LG icon would stay on the screen for around five seconds, then the screen would turn off, and the search button would begin to flash, then it would repeat this process over again. When I had problems with it suddenly shutting off, what would happen is, the screen would go blank, and the search button would start flashing. At first I thought it was overheating, but now I realize that's not the case. Hopefully this info will help whoever's working on fixing it.
