Flip Stand/Dock

Heads up....if you're buying the new "Universal Flip Stand" for your Razr M.......don't save yourself $10 by buying the stand without the "Smart Charger"

Unlike other models of Droid phones which recognized they were in a dock by sensing a magnet in the dock.....the Razr M requires the use of the "special" L shaped "Smart Desktop Charger" for it to recognize that it's in a dock.

I bought the dock without the smart charger, figured I had a drawer full of chargers...why pay $10 for another one. Well.....now it looks like I can't buy the smart charger separately (so far).

Sometimes we're just too smart for our own good.......

They got away from the magnets due to magnetic closures on belt cases causing the phones to come on in the case and kill batteries/overheat, etc. Usually they now use a certain configuration of the USB pinout on the MicroUSB connector, often a small resistor between two pins, to signal a particular docking, charging or data configuration. Without the proper charger, you don't have that "trigger" resistor.

I would have found that info useful when I was shopping for a new dock.....the CSR's at Verizon I talked to this afternoon didn't know it either.

As it is, I've returned the dock I bought to Amazon and doubt if I'll spend $40 on a new dock. I had 2 docks for my D2G, it's only taken me a week to get used to NOT having them.
