Focus problem with camera

My camera takes pictures but it doesn't seem to focus correctly. When I push down the camera button halfway it starts to focus and then it un-focuses. Any help? I have the latest update 2.3.3

Its simple, but is your lens clear? Are there any scratches?

As a test you could install one of the free camera apps in the Market and see if they focus.
