For my daughter's 12th birthday, got her a Kurio Phone

Advertised as the safest smart phone for kids. I am surprised I can't find any info on this site about.

Android 4.2
Bevy of parental controls including a web app that lets you monitor activity, see GPS location, report lost or stolen, and decide what the child can do on the phone.
Built in internet monitor blocks 450 million inappropriate sites.
Only 3G, but she will be on wifi most of the time.

Pretty cool. Got a T-mobile discount plan unlimited talk, text and data, plus 1GB of 4G (she'll never use) for $27/month.

Anyone else get one of these for their kid(s)? Kurio is the kids tablet for families with parental controls safe web surfing and a lots of preloaded apps - The Ultimate Android Tablet for Families

They have tablets with the same technology.

My stepson has a Leap Pad. He's only 5. We have an off-brand android tablet that the Mrs. bought without consulting me that he gets to play with sometimes, but we've got the "kids mode" app installed on it. That's the point we're at, where that kind of stuff works.

Will definitely be keeping an eye on devices like this as he gets older.
