We have had onscreen navigation since the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Galaxy Nexus was one of the first device to see these new buttons. The first time i saw these the capacitive buttons that had been so popular seemed cheap and old. The only drawback to the onscreen buttons is the loss of screen space as they take up the bottom of your screen. Galaxy devices like the S5 and Note 4 still have capacitive buttons, but for the most part android devices have adopted the on screen nav bar. If you would like a new way of navigating from screen to screen you may be happy with the new app "Swipe navigation". This app does require root and allows you replace your onscreen buttons with swipe gestures. This is similar to Pie Control, but lacks any UI elements which makes it even easier and faster to navigate. There are 8 supported swipe gestures including Left, Center, Right, Left Edge, Right Edge, Two Finger, Three Finger and Four Finger. Head to the Play Link below for the download.
