Freshly Rooted Droid

I've been told that the bootloader or w/e isn't cracked yet and that custom roms shouldn't be available for the D2. What gives?

Here's the original thread: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...eadend-w-my-rooted-droid-2-a.html#post1064284

Yet on the Droid 2 forums, I'm seeing a number of custom roms. So I'm confused. At the moment, can someone please provide me a link to whatever guide's appropriate to the D2? I just bought the phone and so I've missed out on a few months worth of progress and no idea where to start.

From what I understood it's (along with my intention of oc'ing): Root -> rom manager -> flash -> install rom to get kernel appropriate for oc'ing

But from what I've heard it's either: No, you can't do it ... or Root -> Bootsomething -> rom manager -> flash -> install rom -> oc

Tips? Corrections? Suggestions? I appreciate any feedback.

here ya go!

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-hacks/91760-droid-2-hacking-rom-install-class.html

there ARE custom roms for the D2, i'm currently running on Squidly's rom which is under his name squidlymandingo and matt has a new rom but its an alpha its unleashed 3.0 under epic rom. There's also fission and i believe apex has been brought to the D2.

The link i provided is about rooting and putting roms on and such i used it to get started off on enjoy! :)

See that's what throws me off.

What is "Tuesday's" lesson about? What exactly does rsdlite do? Correct me if I'm wrong, does it downgrade the phone back to 2.1 or w/e and is that necessary?

You gotta read it lol but it restores your phone back to exactly how you bought it like fresh out of the package

I did read it. He goes to teach about how to do so and so but I want to know why.

Okay, so I have a rooted droid but now he wants me to bring it back to how it was when it first came out of the package?

No its a way to fix your phone if you screw it up ex. Bricking your phone (means it pretty much your phone is fried till you sbf) or bootlooping which means your phone boots to the red eye and then back to the M constantly, its just for screwing up your phone

RSD Lite 4.8 allows you to reflash your system if you corrupt it so bad that you cant get into clockwork mod boot recovery. Basically, you will boot your D2 into the actual android standard boot recovery, it will say ready to flash rom (or something like that) its a black screen with white letters.

Then you have to have a .SBF file. There aren't to hard to find. Then you use RSD Lite to flash that SBF. Generally it is the Stock Boot File (haha..not sure if thats really what SBF stands for but it sums it up), that gives you a working stock ROM so that you can recover your phone. Word of warning: Last time I did it I had to call *228 and reactivate my phone. Not a huge deal, but it made it not able to receive data in the mean time.

Ahhhh, I see. Yeah, that's a good safety precaution. Okay, I'll work on that tonight and post here if there's any issue.

Oh just to put it out there, full body skins are ugly on the droid 2 and makes them look so tacky. The best combo is a one on the screen and a suede jacket. Nakedness is good. XD Just my two cent.

I appreciate all the feedbacks. I've just started on the tutorial for "Tuesday." Hope it all goes well - doubt there shouldn't be much of a problem.

Alright, I'm currently waiting for the backup to finish and will be shortly reading about the different goodies that I can now install.

EDIT: Latest release of Squidly rom is installed. Now time to understand the whole script thing that's listed.

Okay, so far so good besides one issue that I'll address after the following specs.

Droid 2 - Squidly 2.3.20.1 Full Blur @ 1.3Ghz, Stock Theme. Quadrant score: 2585

Anyways, the issue is that the phone seems to freeze/ reboot each time I try to oc and just play around with the phone. But from all the posts regarding temperature ratings and max clock speed, I figured 1.2Ghz wouldn't be a problem but nonetheless, it crashed while I was playing Angry Birds. T_T

Now, is there an alternative way of oc'ing or is this a common issue and I've stuck at 1Ghz?

Well I usually use term emulator but now that there are scripts I can just use those I personally don't overclock but thts just me. I think maybe it reboots is because you're working it like the second after or doing too much with it. That sometimes happens to me.
