Fring app used to work pretty good on 221 but since I took ota gingerbread update it stopped working properly. The other person cannot hear me. I try to reinstall the app but no luck. Anyone has the same issue?

Fring no audio on DX GB

I have vanilla gingerbread and just installed fring. It seems like the mic is turned off, or the app can't read the mic.

Also as you stated, the audio is completely turned off during fring calls. I have turned it back on while in a call, but it doesn't seem to make a difference, the other person doesn't hear anything.

Update: submitted a ticket to fring on the issue. waiting to hear back...

I also submited a ticket and they said they are aware of the bug but they didn't specify a timeframe for having the issue resolved. Knowing them that might take a while.

fring's reply to droid x GB mic issues

So here's the replies from fring:

Hello,
Thank you for contacting our support team.

The vast variety of brands and handsets in the market which runs Android OS makes it very difficult for us to test fring on each handset.
Your handset type isn't officially supported yet, and we've received some reports that fring doesn't perform at its best on it.
So it’s possible that this is the reason for the issue you're facing.

In these cases, if you have the option, we advise to use fring on a different handset.
Otherwise, please contact us back and we’ll see how we can resolve this.

Thank you,
Asaf

So i asked them where is their supported device list (because their blog says 'over 1000 devices supported'), and I asked them why the droid X (being one of the most popular android devices) is not supported. Here is their response:
--------

Thanks for getting back to us.
Currently, we do not have an online list of supported devices. But we here is an updated list for your use.

Apple (with Video Chat support) :
iPhone 3Gs / iOS4
iPhone 4
iTouch 4
iPad 1\2 - only receives video, not broadcasting.
All the devices released previous to the above are not recommended to use with fring.
Note that Push notifications are not supported since the release of the iOS4 that allows Multi-Task

Android devices:
Most of the common Android devices with a 1GHZ CPU can support the Video Chat feature.
For a specific handset - please reply with the model number.
Please note that fring was not tested on special firmwares and costumed kernels of Android.
If you are using a customized version of Android, we cannot assure that fring will operate correctly.

Symbian devices:
Most of the Symbian 9.X and Symbian ^3 devices are supported.
Video calling is supported only on devices with a front facing camera and Symbian 9.2 and above.
Please reply with a specific handset model to make sure that it’s supported with fring.

Regarding your second question - the Droid X isn't supported yet, but we're working on supporting it in the near future.

If you have further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Thank you,
Asaf

I tried nimbuzz and vopium. VOPIUM works good - I will stick with that for a while.
