From iPhone 3 to Droid X

What up forum? I'm just now popping my cherry on here, and it's day number two with my Motorola Droid X.

I'm set to end my service with AT&T and commission my iPhone to retirement. So fay, I've been thouroughly impressed with my Droid X. It's dawning on me that when they say, "Droid does," they damn rightly mean it. The problem with that, however, is that I don't even know where to set bearings. So I'm hoping some kind members of this forum will help to guide me onto some paths of discovering my Droid's capabilities.

To aid my teachers, let me disclaim some facts:

I don't care about games (I read books for liesure)
I don't care about facebook, twitter, myspace, etc.
I just want to exploit this Droid as the tool that it can be, a tool that I've already convinced myself as surpassing the iPhone--the tethering and Bluetoothing functions with my laptop have already demonstrated the possibilities.

So any help would be welcomed (sites, blogs, appstores, other threads on other boards, any personal tips and tricks you've got). Thanks again, and godspeed.

Appbrain. Check my sig for what apps I have installed. Granted I have not used them all but I use most.

That and appbrain lets you browse the market and if you install fast market installer it will install apps to your phone through your computers web browser :D

I too got rid of my iPhone 3GS on the 15th for the Droid X. Very happy so far and want to know some resources for Android mojo. I hope this phone gets rooted as I am into that kind of stuff. I was the 'know it all' amongst the people that know me about the iPhone. I could do pretty much anything on that phone. Now, I am a newbie yet again.

If anyone has some great sites on where to download some cool things, to read about news and what kinds of things you can do with a rooted phone, that would be great.

I have been looking around and found a few good sites, but I am sure there are some 'gems in the rough' so to speak out there and want to know if you would share them.

I am interested in themes for the Droid X and am pretty sure I have to wait for a root for that. Also, I'd like to find some awesome widgets. I don't want clutter, but a few useful widgets would be great. I've seem some of the widgets on the HTC Droid Incredible and am wondering if I can get stuff like that on the DX.

Thanks and you'll be seeing me around more and more.

you will be learning new things about your X for the next 5 months. I would explore the voice search because its very useful.

Say stuff like:
"navigate to...."
"find...."
"translate .... to Spanish"
"500 divided by 6"
"1,500,026 hours to years"

possibilities are endless rly.
Dont forget to use the menu button, long press home button for recently used apps (they could be running or could not be), you dont need an app killer despite what many may say. You dont need anti virus apps.

Thanks. I didn't know the voice search was so versatile. I've been playing with the phone for the past two days straight. So far, the only complaint I have about the DroidX is the delay between pressing the photo button and it actually taking the photo. Its not horrible, but I wish the delay was faster. I do have a task killer only because I dont want stuff running that I don't know about. Its just habit, i'm a techie.

dont worry about tasks running in the background, you are actually slowing your phone down by killing them because it will need to start them backup and that takes up cpu power. Let the android operating system do its job and dont worry about it.
