Future calendar event not syncing

I noticed that when I enter a calendar event for a few months into the future it does not sync with my gmail/calendar.

Should all appointments entered on the phone automatically sync with gmail? And if so, is there a setting that I need to adjust?

I need my phone calendar to look exactly like my online gmail calendar.
Is there a way to force a resync so that all events are online?

Verify that you have background data on. Without that your events will not push out to gmail.
